Director of Commissioning

Prime Data Centers develops, acquires, and operates data centers for some of the world's largest enterprises. A private firm owned by a group controlling $6 billion in assets, with a 15-year tenure in technology and real estate development, Prime provides customers with ownership options and dynamic leasing models, defining a true corporate partnership.
 

The Director of Commissioning leads commissioning for Prime’s portfolio of data center projects. This role is responsible for overseeing the commissioning process from start to finish, ensuring that our data centers are fully operational and meet all client requirements.

Location: Denver, CO
Travel: 30-40%
Reports To: EVP, Product Delivery

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and manage a team of commissioning engineers, overseeing the commissioning process for data centers.

  • Develop commissioning plans and strategies for new data center projects, ensuring they are designed and built to meet all client requirements and specifications.

  • Conduct site visits and inspections to verify that all construction and installation work is carried out according to design and engineering plans.

  • Ensure that all systems are fully operational, including power and cooling systems, fire suppression systems, and network and communications infrastructure.

  • Manage relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress and addressing any issues that arise during commissioning.

  • Ensure that all commissioning work is performed to the highest quality standards, with a strong emphasis on safety and efficiency.

  • Develop and maintain commissioning budgets and schedules, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

  • Participate in business development activities, including proposal development, client meetings, and presentations.

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of commissioning experience within mission-critical environments.
  • At least 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience leading commissioning programs for large-scale data center projects is required.
  • Deep technical expertise across mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Strong understanding of data center operations, system reliability, and industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, NFPA).
  • Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and lead high-performing technical teams.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to travel to Prime project sites as needed (approximately 25-30%).
Preferred Certifications:
  • CxA (Certified Commissioning Authority)
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license
