Location: Onsite in office located in Denver, CO (RiNO District)
Reports To: VP, Engineering

The Prime Data Centers (PDC) Senior Controls Engineer reports to the VP of Engineering and is responsible for controls engineering efforts related to a portfolio of datacenter projects which can include new construction, phased expansion, retrofits and upgrades, acquisition conversions, BAS/BMS/EPMS/DCIM equipment standards, development of design standards, processes, and procedures. This role will support long-term business strategies aligned with key Prime stakeholders to manage the relationship and output of key design partners and equipment suppliers for their assigned projects.   

Responsibilities:

  • Lead controls engineering efforts across data center projects, acting as SME for BAS, BMS, EPMS, and DCIM systems.

  • Develop, review, and maintain design standards, specifications, RFPs, and sequences of operation.

  • Validate consultant and contractor deliverables, including schematics, P&IDs, network designs, and controls submittals.

  • Partner with Construction and Procurement to procure, install, and commission control systems; support Level 4/5 commissioning and MOP reviews.

  • Collaborate with Operations, Construction, and Procurement to balance cost-effective design with operational sustainability.

  • Review and analyze PUE, load sizing, ROI/payback, CFD, and energy modeling; support value engineering efforts.

  • Research emerging technologies and incorporate sustainable, cost-effective solutions into design standards.

  • Participate in design meetings with customers, consultants, and contractors; ensure alignment with PDC standards.

  • Provide ongoing support to troubleshoot controls system issues and respond to emergencies as needed.

 Requirements: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university or college preferred. 

  • 5+ years of experience in mission critical and/or data center mechanical design and construction preferred.

  • Understanding of critical cooling infrastructure within a data center and how power sources provide cooling redundancy. 

  • Proficient in Bluebeam, Teams, Excel, and Word software. 

  • Experience in working with engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Psychrometric analysis, Load/Energy calculations, and CFD analysis. 

  • Understanding of applicable construction codes with an emphasis on the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Mechanical Code (IMC). 

  • Understanding of data center industry standards (e.g. ASHRAE TC9.9, BICSI Data Center Standards)
